How did I find the time to do the American Miniature Theater?
An incredible lack of wealth assisted me. One cannot go partying if your pockets are empty. I gave up drinking back in 1996 because it lost its thrill. Tobacco smoke burns my eyes and lungs. As for my luck in gambling, I might as well set fire to my money myself and save the expense of going to a casino. Then, in 2001, I was diagnosed with Diabetes II, the pill... not shot... form of the disease. Bloody marvelous! There goes sugars and birthday cake. Such restrictions limit one's options.
I also stink in crowds. I have periodic bouts of social anxiety disorder... or whatever the hell headshrinkers are now labeling it... but I prefer imagining myself as an ornery loner with an aversion to firearms. See how delightfully deluded I am? Anyway, one has to keep busy and I favor creative endeavors over destructive ones.
Besides, my trusty computer is always ready to assist me. It doesn't care if I labor away on it at 3 A.M. while attired only in worn underwear. Computers are conveniently user friendly that way... and they never giggle at my scarred hairy legs.
My corniest reason for doing this project is that, hopefully, I will be able to give something back. People love the entertainment industry but are forgetful about its roots. Anything that occurred over a decade ago is considered nostalgic, ancient or dead. It also doesn't help that most historians relate the past in ways that stick in one's throat like fish bones. I want people to have fun with my American Miniature Theater. Yes, it is reflection of America's show business' past but, first and foremost, it should be enjoyed. If you learn anything, that should be incidental.
Wouldn't it be wonderful
if I left behind a legacy
that others appreciated?Do you really
give a damn?
Many individuals cheerfully and graciously help their fellow man in a one-to-one manner. Sorry, I'm not like that. I'm a grumpy old toad who works better with things than people. Trust me on this. This is my kind of project.
