Eccentric Act
See Specialty Act.

Ecdysiast
A stripteaser. The word comes from 'ecdysis' which means the shedding or casting off of an outer coating or integument by snakes, crustaceans, etc. A word coined by H.L. Mencken, American author, journalist and critic.

Effects Projector
A projector used to create background images such as clouds, flames or rain from a rotating glass special effects disk.

Ellipsoidal Reflector Spotlight
A spotlight that employs a large internal bulb reflector and a pair of lenses, producing a bright hard edged light with a more controlled diameter.

Emcee
See Master of Ceremonies. The word 'emcee' is coined from the two main initials of Master of Ceremonies or M.C.

End Men
Named Mr. Bones and Mr. Tambo. See Minstrel Show.

Equalibrist
A performer who is skilled at balancing in unusual or dangerous positions in hazardous ways, such as a tightrope walker.

Equity Light
See Ghostlight.

Expressionism
A playwriting and performance style which places greater value on emotion than realism. Expressionist effects were often achieved through symbolic or abstract distortions of reality such as exaggerated overly-colorful scenic design and subjective character reactions.
