Name
A well-known or prestigious performer, director or producer whose participation lends credibility, legitimacy or audience-appeal to a production. A star.

Narration
(1) Speeches describing off-stage action or of a character's inner feelings.
(2) Any speech given by a chorus or narrator.

Narrative
A story or play told in words rather than acted on stage. Narrative plays can be pantomime plays or ballets in which a narrator relates the ongoing story.

Naturalism
(1) A style of objective writing and performing in which situations are presented in great detail and accuracy to show sufficient cause for the outcome.
(2) A representation of natural setting, sounds and speech patterns, usually in a framework of slower, rural-based subject matter. A form of Realism.

Neutral Density Filter
Lighting filter which reduces the brightness of a light source without changing its color. Also known as an ND.

Novelty Act

Number One Bar
The lighting bar immediately behind the proscenium or the front lighting bar that hangs over the stage in a non-proscenium arch theater.
