"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing

Un-Memberships & Other Worthless Garbage

What about memberships to this WebSite? - Memberships?

Memberships!?!

HA!

I don't need no stinkin' memberships!

Plastic Money Be Damned!

I hate areas of the Internet where one has to pay a fee to gain access. What you get is rarely worth the cost. I also hate the idea of having to flash a credit card to "prove" who you are. There are a lot of con men (and women) in Cyberspace. Deal only with reputable firms. Check them out via the telephone first. Never post any personal information you don't have to. If, after you've logged onto the Internet in your traditional manner and, later, a screen pops up asking for your Internet connection password or security access word or Social Security Number, DON'T GIVE IT! You're being scammed! They're CROOKS!!

Besides, if I started taking memberships, they would be considered taxable income by the Internal Revenue Service. That means accounting records, estimating expenses and other headaches I don't want to deal with.

What about sponsors for my WebSite? - Who would be stupid enough to sponsor me? Yes, I'd love to have someone pay my bills and transform this avocation into my profession. I'd also like a million bucks and a beautiful babe awaiting me in my bed. (With my looks and disposition, I would need a million dollars to get such a woman.) Frankly, I don't see any of that happening in the foreseeable future.

When again will hell freeze over?

What else is missing from my WebSite? - Professional WebMasters send Cookies via their sites, tricky little files that go into your computer and send back data. (Cookies are rare with personal WebSites because they take advanced programming skills.) Cookies blab about the other WebSites you have visited, things on your computer, etc., sending this information to those WebSites and their various advertisers. Other WebMasters copy the E-mail addresses of the people who visit their WebPages and sell them to advertisers.

Why? Before you are overcome with rampant paranoia, those WebMasters do not have sinister motives. Some get miniscule kickbacks from advertisers. Others want to know who visits their WebSites and put them on their E-mail lists. (It is rumored that Mircosoft also does that to see if you are using pirated versions of their software... but I wouldn't swear to it.)

Very few non-business WebMasters fool with such nonsense. Most do not have the ability to gather such information nor want it in the first place. Many small business WebSites also ignore such things. They know the difference between the curious and potential customers... and do not wish to frighten either away.

Then there are WebMasters like myself who don't give a damn about who visits our WebSites. (I have too much to do in my life than piddle with such foolishness.) I am also an advocate of Internet privacy. When I surf the Net, I like to remain anonymous until I want to purchase something or request information. The same goes when I go shopping. I don't want some idiot sales clerk irritating me unless I ask for assistance. That's why I shop at Wal-Mart instead of at the Mall.

Plus, Wal-Mart has better prices... and I'm cheap.

This is a Cookie-Free Zone!!!

How do I join the Mark Corrington Fan Club? - ??? Say WHAT???

I cannot believe some idiot asked me that!
There are days when *I* don't want to be me.

For your information:

  • There is no Mark Corrington Fan Club.
  • There never has been a Mark Corrington Fan Club.
  • There never will be a Mark Corrington Fan Club.

You can always send me money, though. Cash. Unmarked bills with no serial numbers in sequential order. In a plain white envelope. Makes things easier around tax time.

Is there a Mark Corrington's Writer's Block banner I can post on my WebSite? - My first response was "Are you kidding me?" Surprisingly, the answer was, "No."

So I made one. It will save as mcwb.gif & is 7KB in size.

mcwb.gif

Its link would be:

<A HREF="http://www.ipa.net/~mc64802/index.html"><IMG SRC="mcwb.gif" BORDER=0></A>

If you put mcwb.gif into a file folder, it would read:

<IMG SRC="Your File Folder's Name/mcwb.gif" BORDER=0>

Have fun.
